Arum predicts brutal ending

watch Pacquiao vs Cotto Live Streaming

American promoter Bob Arum predicts a brutal ending in the world welterweight bout between Filipino Manny Pacquiao and defending champion Miguel Cotto this weekend.

Though Arum promotes both Pacquiao and the Puerto Rican Cotto, the astute promoter insists during an overseas telephone conversation with the Bulletin that he himself is perplexed with the possible outcome of the fight after seeing both fighters prepare for this bout.

Anybody who tells you now that they know for sure how it's gonna end up, is not telling the truth,” said Arum “The reason this fight is creating so much attention is because of the fact that people who know boxing are baffled as to how this fight is going to turn out.”

Arum though sees the fight to be stopped in the later rounds but won’t be surprised if the fight lasts the distance that is set for 12-rounds at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

“I know how the fight is going to start and the question is can Miguel handle Manny’s speed early on and can Manny handle Miguel’s power early on?” said Arum. “They’re gonna both be aggressive in the beginning. If that doesn’t work for either of them, then you’ll see Miguel resorting to be a counter-puncher and Manny going on the attack.”

Arum believes his latest promotion might be one of the most successful promotions he has ever staged owing to the marketability of both Cotto and Pacquiao.

“What boxing always needs is a charismatic figure that people want to see and an opponent who can give him very tough battle,” said Arum “We have Manny Pacquiao as the charismatic figure in boxing and Miguel Cotto as a tremendously powerful welterweight that stands in his way. That captures everyone’s imagination.”

Meantime, Pacquiao on Tuesday concluded his training at the Wild Card Gym in Hollywood with a four-round sparring opposite Ray Beltran.

“He’s sharper than before and I don’t see him losing this bout,” said Beltran.

Beltran has been part of Pacquiao’s sparring partners in the Filipino’s bout with Juan Manuel Marquez, Erik Morales, and Oscar De La Hoya.

Filipino boxing champ Manny Pacquiao proved himself quite the comedic draw during his first appearance on the popular American talk show, “Jimmy Kimmel Live.”

Answering every question—even the more frivolous ones—that the show’s host threw at him, Pacquiao elicited laughter and much applause from the studio crowd.

Asked if he knows or if he has ever played “Pacman,” the computer game, Pacquiao candidly admitted that he isn’t familiar with the game but that he plays with his dog named “Pacman.”

Pacquiao went on to discuss his movie, “Wapakman,” describing the character as a powerful hero who can do “everything.”

“Can he get invisible?” asked Kimmel.

“No,” Pacquiao quipped before adding “[But] It makes like a Superman, Spiderman, you know.”

Confirming reports that he is recording an album for international release, Pacquiao said it will not be his first foray into singing and that he enjoys the whole process of recording as much as he enjoys boxing.

As for his reported entourage of “more than thirty” people, Pacquiao said that each of his people has an “assignment.”

“There's a guy who cook [for] me, wash my clothes, clean my room,” he explained.

Asked why he named one of his kids, “Queen Elizabeth,” the Pacman simply said he liked the name.

“You know, it's kind of, I like to watch the movies you know,” said he.

This prompted Kimmel to ask if he actually meant to name his kid after “Queen Latifah,” a rap artist turned actor.

Looking very much confused, seemingly not knowing who Kimmel was talking about, Pacquiao simply laughed.

After the Q & A portion, Pacquiao demonstrated part of his training regimen [having his stomach and arms hit with a thick stick as “mind conditioning”] in preparation for his upcoming fight with Puerto Rican champ, Miguel Cotto; playfully punched through some pumpkins [the episode was aired after Halloween] and sang with the studio band with much gusto [Dan Hill’s 1977 hit ballad, “Sometimes When We touch”].

The episode, which was posted on YouTube drew mixed reactions from netizens.

Though there are many who expressed admiration for Pacquiao, describing him [as per the TV show appearance] somebody “funny,” “very likeable,” and “very talented,” there are those who deemed him a “sell-out” and that he should just “stick to boxing” and avoid being “exploited and used” for more money.

Pacquiao’s weakness exposed

Joe Chavez, who once worked for Manny Pacquiao as a cutman, said he holds the key to the victory of Miguel Cotto over the Filipino pound-for-pound king when they clash on Nov. 14 in Las Vegas.

While Chavez has a different role inside Team Cotto with Joe Santiago as head trainer, the seasoned cornerman has immersed himself so much in Pacquiao’s corner that he claims that he knows some of Pacquiao’s innermost secrets.

“When attacked, he (Pacquiao) doesn’t know what to do,” Chavez told the Puerto Rican newspaper El Nuevo Dia over the weekend.

Before the Argentine-born Miguel Diaz was recruited by Team Pacquiao, Chavez had been a familiar fixture in the corner manned by Freddie Roach, having aided Pacquiao in his bloody brawl with Juan Manuel Marquez and a few of other fights.

“I have other work here (in Team Cotto), but if they ask me, I can help and do my comments and I know Pacquiao very well,” said Chavez.

Aside from Team Cotto’s observation that Pacquiao doesn’t do well when he is the one being pursued, Chavez believes that Cotto’s natural advantage in size will eventually prove to be Pacquiao’s downfall.

“Cotto is (like) a bull. Pacquiao is fast, but Cotto has more power in the punch and is strong. This will be the difference. Pacquiao has never fought as strong as Cotto," said Chavez.
